Everything You Need For Writing Strong Research Papers

What Makes A Research Paper's Title Effective: Simple Recommendations?

When you are writing a research paper or any paper for that matter, it is wise to think of the title of the piece last. Sometimes the title turns out to be the most difficult part, especially considering that it is such a small part of the big scheme of things. The title is the part of the paper that first draws the reader in. It is the part that makes the reader want to read your paper. So, with that being the case, the title needs to be interesting and informative. But, it also should be short into the point. Here are some major tips to make sure that you come up with an effective title for your next research paper.

Do not use abbreviations or big and confusing words

Simplicity is a big part of coming up with a title. The title is a phrase that tells the readers what you are going to be discussing in the paper. But, you do not want to be too simple. Do not use a bunch of abbreviations in the title just so that you can make it shorter. That will only confuse that reader and put you in a bad position. You also do not want to do the opposite and use a bunch of jargon, or big words that people may not understand. By using abbreviations, you risk that the reader is not knowing that abbreviation and being confused. By using jargon or big words, you risk the reader is not understanding the title.

Keep the title short and interesting

No one wants to read some long and drawn out the title; that is what the actual paper if for. The title should be kept short, sweet and to the point. There is no need to use a full sentence. All you need is a few short words that tell the reader the what and/or who of what you are going to be writing about following that title.

Use Keywords

As stated before, the title is the first impression that the reader gets. It is the first thing they see when they encounter your research paper. It lets them know a little bit of what to expect in your writing. That being said, you need to make sure that you use keywords and terms that go directly to your topic. If your topic is about weight gain, you will want to mention the term weight gain. Whatever your topic is, needs to be stated in the title.
