Writing a psychology research paper is just like writing any research paper. There are some steps that you have go through to complete a great research paper. The first thing you have to do is pick your topic. You can do this by thinking of all of subject and topics that you covered in the class and pick your favorite of them. This can be your topic. Now you have to do all of your research, take good notes, and keep track of the sources that you used. Now that you have all of the information, it’s time to start to create your research paper.

  • Like with any other research paper, you want to put all of you facts in order. You can do this by creating an outline of all of the facts that you collected during your research. This is the blueprint of what is going to be included in your research paper. This also helps you fill in gaps and eliminate parts that don’t fit.
  • Write your introduction for your research paper, this should include a brief summary of the main points you are going to cover and be engaging to the reader, so they want to read it. You can also as a fun fact or a quote to grab their attention.
  • The next few paragraphs, usually around three are the supporting information on your topic. Each paragraph has the main point and then the facts to support it and this all ties back into the main topic of the research paper. If you don’t have supporting facts then your research paper won’t read well and the reader won’t take your topic serious.
  • The conclusion brings closure to the topic but it can also tell the reader about more research that needs to be done or other facts that might not have been covered in the body but make sure you use this as a transition to more research or another paper you might write. This also brings together all of the facts and ties them to the topic.

If you are writing any research paper, including psychology, you want to make sure that you have enough good information to make your paper engaging. If pick a topic that doesn’t have enough information or is on a topic that doesn’t support your point of view, then you research paper won’t be well read. Do all of the research first before you start to pick and narrow your topic, this will ensure that you have enough information.
